Handed a Pink Slip? Now What?

Just about two months ago, my husband told me a good friend of ours was laid off from his job. We couldn’t believe it. He had worked for the company for almost 15 years, he earned a 6-figure salary, his wife was a stay-at-home mom, and he was the sole provider for his family!

To follow that story, I have another friend who had just gotten out of the Army a year ago. He served in Iraq, but could not find a job for a year. A couple of months ago, he finally accepted a civilian job in Iraq and is away from his baby three months at a time.

These stories are all over the place now-a-days! When I do hear one, I am so grateful for the profession that I have chosen. I work my tail off to learn the skills it takes to achieve the ridiculous success people only dream of. The more I learn, the more I earn. I do get frustrated at times. I do want to quit at times, but I don’t and I won’t. Yes, I do have to sacrifice time with my kids here and there. You probably say, ‘that sounds like a job!’

To a certain degree. The 3% of successful network marketers who are earning a very comfortable living will NEVER tell you it was so easy. They will tell you they sacrificed time IN THE BEGINNING with family, they will tell you they spent time & money figuring out the skills IN THE BEGINNING, they will tell you they wanted to quit sometimes IN THE BEGINNING. See where I’m going with this? This is not a JOB! It’s a gift that someone gave to us and so few of us choose to WORK at it.

Some think its a golden ticket and wait for a pile of money to be handed to them on a silver platter. While others think it is a gift, however, that gift has to be unwrapped gently, opened up carefully, and then the gift has to be put together, reading instructions, drilling in screws, putting on wheels, and then, voila! You hit the ‘ON’ button and the gift is roaring forward!

Why is there such a wide gap in thinking? The same goes for the workforce. Why does one person stay working in the mail room for years while another promotes rapidly through the organization? It’s probably because the rapid mover continues to learn new skills, self-develops, goes in early, stays late, and learns from the people who can teach him more skills!

The similarities are the same for both careers as far as dedication. You have to show up everyday in Network marketing, just as you do for a job. You have to continue to learn new skills just like you do at a job. The difference is that the rewards are FAR greater! Working your network marketing business is a 5 year commitment. Working a job is a 40 year commitment. At the end of your commitments, you have this: retire in 5 years or retire BROKE in 40. Why is this a decision?

So, to tie up my beginning stories, I sent my two friends the business overview for my company with both their permission. Neither even watched a minute of it, however, both said, ‘No thanks, Vidette. I think I’ll hold out for something more stable,’ I kept with the professional high-road and wished them both good luck, but I was itching to scream at them, ‘You were given a day’s notice that you no longer had a way to support your family and you think that is stable?’ It’s been 2 months for one friend and over a year for the other without working and a 30-minute overview couldn’t be watched? Something that COULD possess the answer they were looking for? It’ an option and it doesn’t hurt to look. If you honestly watch it and its not a fit, then I’m cool with that. To not look is simply plain ignorance!

Here we are now and both my friends are in the same situation. I know it sounds like I’m knocking my friends and I don’t mean to. I just want to get the point across that there are options that people aren’t even taking an educated look at. They make up their minds and decline the option without even knowing about it. If you’ve been handed a pink slip, know this: ’safe’ is now the new risky! Don’t be safe! Being safe will keep you broke. Being ‘risky’ and trying something a little out of the ordinary is what will get us out of this economic meltdown! When people are making money again in non-traditional ways, they will spend, and our country will start to move again! Network marketing will produce more millionaires this year than any other industry! Be a part of it! Some will, but others that do, life will never be the same!

Those who will need a mentor and a system that will get you earning a check quickly! Be open to something different! More millionaires will be produced this year because of Network Marketing than any other industry. It’s not just for stay-at-home moms having parties in the living room anymore! If you’re a worker, if you’ve fallen on desperate times, and you are disciplined, then you are perfect for this profession! At one time or another, my decision to be a network marketer was new, scary and unknown. I dove right in and couldn’t even begin to explain how different my life is in only 1 year!
